It was a challenging project for us. The portrait had to capture his radiance, his knowledge, his wisdom, and his simplicity. We chose to make the portrait in black and white oil on canvas, which we felt would best bring out the essence of Swamiji and make his devotees feel his presence, watching over them, guiding them, and helping them.
Notice the delicate lines, under the eyes, and soft lines on his forehead conveying a sense of lived wisdom. The intense light in his eyes contrasted with the darker shades around his eyes, making his eyes shine even more. Also notice the red tilak, on his forehead, the only dab of color in the entire black and white portrait, which invites the viewer's attention to his face.
The overall grey backdrop provides soft relief to the face and frames the face in the canvas. The delicate brushwork is also evident in the beard, as each strand of hair stands out. The team worked on creating the portrait for several days, creating every minute facet and paying attention to every minute detail.
The result has been greatly appreciated by our client, who called us and profusely congratulated us on doing such wonderful work and promised more projects will follow. The project gave us immense satisfaction by itself and our client's praise was the cherry on top. The original photo shared by the client can be seen at the end of the video.
